Feds Watching is a performance situating black femme bodies at the intersections of visibility and surveillance, working to reject and exploit the respectability politics at play within these constructs. Located inside historical and current constructions of black spaces built by white, colonial, oppressive forces (including the panopticon and black ghettos in the U.S.), the work considers how black femme bodies’ intergenerational memories and lived experiences both negate and support politics of reconciliation through methods of resistance as well as real and imagined reparations. Harge Dance Stories will present Feds Watching as the first installment of a larger evening-length work, Fly | Drown.
